Shane is all about control. Discipline. The guy who always does the right thing, even when it costs him. He keeps everything locked down while maintaining a smile on his face. His feelings, wants, doubts- they all take a backseat to his career, because being steady is how he survives in life and keeps his parents proud of him. You can feel how hard he works to be dependable, to never be the one who messes up. Whether it's his behavior or the shoes he's wearing, he's Mr. Dependable. 

But underneath all that composure? He feels everything SO DEEPLY. He just doesn’t let it show unless it really matters, or his frustration gets the better of him. The small cracks in that control, the quiet jealousy, the moments where he almost says what he wants but pulls back and deletes those texts ("we didn't even kiss" I SOBBED) that’s where his whole heart is, and when we see the REAL Shane.

Watching him slowly choose honesty over safety is what makes his character arc hit so hard. His love for Ilya- feeling unrequited when it really isn't- is something I think all of us have felt and can empathize with. That's why "I'm coming to the cottage" had me jumping on the couch like Tom Cruise on Oprah. 

For the love of two of my favorite characters who are complicated, loyal, frustrating, and somehow perfect for each other despite everything that says they shouldn't be together.

Their story isn't all rainbows and sunshine. It was the furthest thing from easy. It was layered, deeply emotional, and built on years of history and yearning that never really went away. Watching them figure it out together on the show; slowly, stubbornly, honestly, finding each other in the end, is what made it hit so hard for me. It's a story of finding the confidence to be yourself, of loving who you love, and of finding the courage to never give up.
